Apple Introduces M6 MacBook Pro and iMac With Faster AI Performance

Apple has announced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro and 24-inch iMac powered by its latest M6 chip, bringing faster processing, improved artificial intelligence performance and upgraded connectivity. The MacBook Pro starts at $1,999, while the iMac starts at $1,499, with both devices available for preorder from October 28 ahead of their November 6 release.

The company introduced the devices on October 27, a day before its scheduled “Pro and Tell” event. The announcements follow the introduction of a new iPad mini featuring an OLED display and A20 Pro chip on October 26.

M6 MacBook Pro Offers Faster Processing and 24-Hour Battery Life

According to Apple’s announcement, the M6 chip features a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, delivering up to 30% faster graphics and 25% faster AI workloads compared with the M5. Apple also claims the chip contains the world’s fastest CPU core.

For large language model processing, Apple reports that the M6 MacBook Pro delivers up to 13 times faster time-to-first-token performance than the M1 model and up to 1.3 times faster performance than its M5 predecessor. The chip also incorporates Neural Accelerators in each GPU core and a dual 16-core Neural Engine for on-device AI tasks.

The laptop includes 16GB of unified memory as standard, configurable up to 32GB, with memory bandwidth reaching 170GB/s compared with 153GB/s on the M5. Battery life reaches up to 24 hours, while compatible high-wattage USB-C adapters can charge the device to 50% in approximately 30 minutes.

Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, MagSafe 3, an SDXC card slot and a headphone jack. The MacBook Pro also retains its 12-megapixel camera and comes in space black and silver.

New iMac Features Five Times Faster On-Device AI Performance

Apple also introduced its M6-powered iMac, featuring a faster CPU and GPU with integrated Neural Accelerators. The company claims the desktop delivers up to five times faster on-device AI performance than the M4 model, alongside improved multitasking, photo editing and video production capabilities.

The iMac retains its 24-inch 4.5K Retina display and includes an upgraded camera and audio system, up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports and color-matched accessories. It also supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and macOS 27.

The desktop is available in seven colors: blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver. Both M6-powered Macs will begin shipping on November 6, following the opening of preorders on October 28.
