Airbnb to Launch AI Travel Agent in First Half of 2027

Airbnb plans to launch an AI-powered travel agent in the first half of 2027, introducing a personalized interface that helps users research destinations, compare accommodations, manage bookings, and receive assistance throughout their trips. The company confirmed the timeline on November 5, 2026, alongside its third-quarter earnings results.

According to Airbnb’s third-quarter shareholder letter, the AI agent will generate travel-specific interfaces based on individual requests rather than relying entirely on text-based conversations. CEO Brian Chesky said the system will combine visual elements and booking tools to support different stages of travel planning.

AI Agent to Generate Personalized Travel Interfaces

Airbnb is developing the agent using a library of hundreds of interface components, including maps, photographs, calendars, accommodation comparisons, and itineraries. The system will assemble these elements in real time according to what users want to accomplish.

For example, a traveler researching accommodation could receive a visual comparison of available properties, while someone organizing a trip might see calendars and itinerary suggestions. The interface will adapt to the task instead of presenting every response through a conventional chatbot.

Chesky said travel planning requires a different approach from routine tasks such as scheduling appointments or making restaurant reservations. He noted that approximately 80% of travelers enjoy researching trips, including browsing photographs, comparing properties, and discussing options with companions.

The company intends to preserve these activities while using AI to help travelers find relevant information and make decisions.

AI Assistance Will Extend Beyond Reservations

Airbnb said its agent will also provide support after customers complete their bookings. Users will be able to request reservation changes, resolve payment problems, obtain refunds, arrange alternative accommodation, and access 24-hour safety assistance.

The company plans to incorporate its experience managing relationships between hosts and guests into the system. Chesky said this access to Airbnb’s booking and customer service infrastructure would allow the agent to handle tasks that external AI assistants cannot easily complete independently.

Over time, Airbnb expects the technology to support additional travel offerings, including hotels, services, and experiences. These categories became a greater priority following the company’s platform redesign in May 2025.

Airbnb Reports Strong Third-Quarter Revenue Growth

The AI announcement accompanied stronger financial results, with Airbnb reporting third-quarter revenue of $4.87 billion, representing a 19% increase from the previous year. The figure exceeded Wall Street estimates and marked the company’s fastest revenue growth in more than three years.

Airbnb also raised its full-year 2026 revenue growth forecast from the mid-teens to the high teens. Chesky attributed the performance to renewed business momentum as the company continued expanding its travel offerings.

The company has not disclosed an exact launch date for the AI agent or specified which markets will receive access first. The initial consumer rollout remains scheduled for the first half of 2027.
