Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has filed for an initial public offering (IPO) in the United States, disclosing $16.3 billion in revenue for the first six months of 2026 alongside substantial accounting losses. The October 26 filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) outlines plans to list the company on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol ANT.
According to Anthropic’s official SEC filing, revenue increased from approximately $1.2 billion during the same period in 2025, reflecting rapid expansion in demand for its AI products. The company has not disclosed its proposed share price, the number of shares to be offered or the amount it intends to raise.
Revenue Growth Accompanied by Substantial Net Losses
Anthropic reported an operating loss of $693 million for the first half of 2026, improving from $2.1 billion during the corresponding period last year. However, its net loss reached $80.7 billion, largely because of noncash accounting adjustments associated with convertible debt.
The company warned in its filing that it may not achieve or sustain profitability, despite improving operating performance. The distinction between operating and net losses reflects the significant effect of accounting adjustments on its reported financial results.
Enterprise Customer Base Expands
Anthropic also disclosed the scale of its enterprise business, reporting more than 11,900 customers spending at least $100,000 annually as of September 30, 2026. Among them, approximately 1,900 customers spent $1 million or more annually, while about 250 customers spent at least $10 million.
These figures provide additional information about Anthropic’s growing commercial operations as the company prepares to enter public markets. Its products include the Claude family of AI models, which serve businesses, developers and individual users.
Founders to Retain Majority Voting Control After IPO
Anthropic’s proposed governance structure will allow its seven co-founders to retain 50.1% of shareholder voting power through a newly established entity called Founder LLC. The group comprises Dario Amodei, Daniela Amodei, Tom Brown, Jack Clark, Jared Kaplan, Sam McCandlish and Christopher Olah.
The arrangement gives the founders majority control over general shareholder decisions without requiring equivalent economic ownership. Anthropic said the structure is intended to protect its AI safety commitments as a publicly traded company.
Separately, Anthropic’s Long-Term Benefit Trust, established in 2023, will have the authority to appoint and remove a majority of the company’s board members. The trust is intended to support Anthropic’s public benefit mission, including responsible AI development.
The filing acknowledges that advanced AI systems could pose catastrophic or existential risks to humanity, while the proposed governance arrangements will limit public shareholders’ influence over company decisions. Anthropic has not announced a date for its public market debut.
