Netflix has introduced AI Discover, a new experimental feature that helps subscribers find movies and television shows based on their mood, viewing preferences, and available time. Announced on November 3, 2026, the feature uses artificial intelligence to generate recommendations based on user selections, offering an alternative to browsing through the streaming platform’s existing catalog.
According to the official Netflix announcement, AI Discover is initially rolling out to English-language subscribers in the United States using supported television devices. The company plans to expand access to additional users over the coming weeks.
AI Discover Offers Mood-Based Viewing Recommendations
The new Discover tab presents curated themes that allow subscribers to choose content based on their current interests. Available categories include “something light,” “scare me,” “family movie night,” and “quick watches,” alongside selections featuring new and trending titles.
Each theme includes clips from relevant movies and television shows, helping users preview content before deciding what to watch. After selecting a category, subscribers receive recommendations that match their preferences and can narrow the results by choosing additional themes.
Users can also select a “something different” option to restart the recommendation process. Each suggested title includes a “Tune Your Recommendations” control alongside the existing “Play” and “My List” buttons, allowing viewers to indicate which recommendations they prefer or exclude titles they do not want suggested again.
Netflix said the feature operates through a new intelligence system designed to respond to user preferences in real time. The technology continuously adjusts its recommendations based on the information viewers provide during their browsing sessions.
Netflix Tests New AI-Powered Discovery Features
Netflix describes AI Discover as an experimental environment where the company can test different approaches to helping subscribers find content. The streaming service will use feedback and usage data to determine which features should be retained, modified, or incorporated into its main interface.
The company has spent years developing recommendation systems based on viewing history, user ratings, and titles added to personal watchlists. AI Discover adds another layer of personalization by allowing subscribers to communicate their immediate viewing preferences rather than relying exclusively on past activity.
The initial release focuses on theme-based recommendations, although Netflix intends to test additional discovery features within the same section. The company has not announced a schedule for introducing further tools or expanding the feature to mobile devices and web browsers.
Availability on Supported Television Devices
Subscribers included in the rollout will find a new “Discover” button in the top navigation bar of the Netflix television interface. The button features a red gem icon accompanied by a “New” label to distinguish it from existing navigation options.
The feature is currently limited to eligible users in the United States who access Netflix in English on supported televisions. Netflix has not specified when AI Discover will become available internationally or whether the experimental features will eventually become permanent parts of its streaming service.
